Assistant Grocery Manager

Pineland Co-op is currently recruiting for an Assistant Grocery Manager.  Reporting to and partnering with the Grocery Manager, the Assistant Grocery Manager will play a critical role in leading and overseeing the operations of the grocery department at the Nipawin Food Store.  The position is responsible for assisting with the overall operation of the Grocery department, including sales; gross margin and expense control; department standards, ordering and inventory control; human resources; guest service, administrative duties; department merchandising and corporate social responsibility activities.

About You:

The assistant manager supports the manager in enhancing our organization through effective people practices.  You must live the brand, making our team members and our members feel at home.  You are a developing leader of people, and you will motivate your team to succeed.  You will cultivate a culture of accountability with your team.  You will use effective communication strategies to articulate the vision of success to all team members.  You will utilize the varied skill sets of your team members to maximize customer engagement.

You will have a sound knowledge of department operations and possess above average communication and interpersonal skills.  A solid understanding of computer applications, especially Microsoft Office, is required.  Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years retail experience, ideally in a leadership setting.  Post-secondary education is not required, but is a definite asset. 

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 10 kg; lift up to 25 kg on an intermittent basis; must have the ability to push or pull up to 600 kg using a pallet jack
  • May be required to be on ones feet for an extended period of time
  • Must be willing to obtain Power Mobile Equipment Operator (PMEO) Certification
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures (inside, outside, coolers, freezers)
